My story
Marvin grew up in Namatala in Mbale. His parents loved him deeply but had no money to send him to school, and there were days the family had nothing to eat at all. Eventually Marvin left home and started living on the streets, fighting other street children for scraps of food just to get through the day. Then his health began to fail. He had no medication and no way to see a doctor, and when he returned to his parents for help, they could only offer him local herbs. He calls that stretch of his life "a very miserable life indeed." In 2017, Mama Aida and the IChooseYou team were walking through his neighborhood, met his mother, and chose Marvin. Education, medication, clothing, food, and shelter — things he had stopped imagining for himself — became part of his daily life. Marvin is now ready to pursue a course in Business Administration. With a scholarship provider, the boy who once fought for scraps can build a future.
