My story
Florence grew up in Namatala with her mother and younger sister, after her parents divorced when she was very small. Before IChooseYou came into her life, the household survived on whatever part-time work her mother could find — washing clothes, casual labor, anything that would put food on the table that day. When no work came, they went without, or stretched a little maize flour into porridge. Rent was the hardest battle of every month, and the uncertainty made it impossible for Florence to start school on time. In 2013, Mama Aida and the IChooseYou staff stopped at her home, asked her mother how things were, and the truth came pouring out. They asked permission to take Florence into the program. She started school in 2014 and has been thriving since. Florence is now ready to pursue a course in Catering. With a scholarship provider, that future is within reach.
